«The Vigilante» ― is a story by the author John Steinbeck revolves around the character Mike, who has just participated in the lynching of a so-called “nigger”. Most critics associate the tale with an actual event, a lynching which took place in San Jose at 1933 when two men were forcibly dragged from their jail cells and were hung in a public park.
