"The Inn" is a classic short story by Guy de Maupassant, first published in in 1886. The Inn is set in Schwarenbach, high in the Gemmi region of the Swiss Alps. A popular haunt for hikers and adventurers, the inn in question is completely cut off in the winter. The owners, the Hauser Family, spend the worst months down in the valley, leaving only two mountain guides - Gaspard and Ulrich - and Sam the dog in residence.
