The novel is a summary of the events of the beginning of the first century in Armenia from the standpoint of Christian thinking. The historical facts are mostly taken from the "The history of Armenia" by Movses Khorenatsi. The book describes the grave consequences of the imperial rise of Rome to Armenian domination and the situation in which the Armenian statehood of Edessa was in the time of King Abgar V. Palace conspiracies, noble elevations, lyrical love impulses: all this can be seen against the backdrop of an impetuous national and religious landscape.
