The novel describes the 29-year period of anarchy of the Kingdom of Armenia at the end of the 3rd century, when King Khosrov was assassinated by Anak Parthev, and Ardashir the Unifier, having conquered the wealth of the Arshakuni in Persia, turned to Armenia. In the created confusion, many of the Armenian ministers, fleeing the country, find refuge in Rome, and the rest, obeying the authority of Ardashir, remain under his subjection.
