Mont-Oriol
“Mont-Oriol” is Guy de Maupassant's third novel, published in 1887. In the novel, Maupassant explores themes dear to him through a plot where romantic passions intertwine with financial struggles. Christiane Andermatt, arriving from Paris to Auvergne with her husband William for treatment of suspected infertility, finds love with Paul Bretigny in the lands of the village of Enval. Meanwhile, her banker husband exploits local land for profit, constructing a new resort town in hopes of increasing his fortune.
