Notre-Dame de Paris
“Notre-Dame de Paris” is a novel by Victor Hugo, first published in 1831. Set in the late 15th century, it tells the story of several characters whose lives are intertwined around the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. It follows the intertwined lives of the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda, the deformed bell-ringer Quasimodo, the tormented archdeacon Claude Frollo, and the captain of the King's archers Phoebus. The novel explores themes of love, fate, and social justice, while also serving as a critique of the neglect of historical monuments. Hugo's vivid descriptions and complex characters highlight the conflict between societal structures and individual desires.
