In an Armenian mountain village at the beginning of the twentieth century, poverty forces parents to face a difficult choice. A portrait of rural life unfolds around Yerem and Sanam’s family, with its material needs, the watchful eyes of neighbors, and an uncertain future. Sato’s fate becomes the focal point of a clash between parental love, conscience, and the lure of prosperity. Through Sanam’s inner turmoil, the strength of the bond between mother and child is revealed, as is the pain born of poverty and difficult decisions.
