First published in the collection “Armenian Folk Tales” (compiled and edited by A. Ghanalanyan, 1950, Yerevan). The original manuscript is preserved at FA, M. Hakobyan Fund, FFI։ 8440—8458. The present edition is based on the manuscript version of the tale. Written by M. Hakobyan in the village of Akner, Alaverdi region, in 1939. Narrator: Gyulkhas Hakobyan, 79 years old. The following note by the folklorist is attached to the tale: “In several dialects, egan means sister’s son (nephew). In this case, it carries the same meaning, but the storyteller uses it as a proper name.
