The 7th century was marked by major events, including the Byzantine–Persian wars, the capture of Jerusalem, the Arab conquests, the fall of the Sasanian Empire, and the loss of Byzantine territories. Very few historical works describing these events in a comprehensive way have survived, with the exception of The History of Sebeos. Its author, Sebeos, was a contemporary and eyewitness to these events, providing valuable information about the political life of the South Caucasus, Iran, the Middle East, and Byzantium.
