This unfinished novella was written in 1881 in Shushi, where Aghayan worked as a teacher from 1878 to 1882. In his memoir The Major Events of My Life (1893), the author writes that in Shushi he was so busy with school work that “as they say, I didn’t even have time to wipe my nose, and I wrote nothing except one Anahit and one The Church Inspector, which was published in Meghu in an unfinished and fragmentary form.”
