Petrograd, autumn 1917. Revolutionary upheaval rapidly changes the everyday life of the city and the choices facing its people. Andrei, recently returned from the front, and the elderly worker Vasili become involved in the struggle for political power, while Marianna tries to understand the meaning of the changes around her. Personal fears and loyalties intersect with social conflict, revealing contrasting attitudes toward revolution, duty, violence, and the emerging order.
