In a Caucasian town in the late nineteenth century, a young Armenian woman named Marjan lives under patriarchal customs that determine a woman’s fate without her consent. Forced to marry the merchant Martiros, she openly resists coercion and accepted social rules. By day she appears to be an ordinary housewife; by night, dressed as a man and carrying weapons, she protects girls from unwanted marriages. Her actions inspire fear, condemnation, and secret admiration among the townspeople.
