In a Soviet labor camp deep in the Siberian taiga during the years of repression, guards and prisoners gather at a celebratory table. Beneath the prisoners’ camp clothes are scientists, doctors, military officers, and artists, each carrying memories of a life beyond the fence. Against the silent forest and the guarded enclosure, the story considers human dignity, compassion, and the fragile possibility of recognizing another person as an equal. For a brief while, shared conversation and remembrance loosen the divisions imposed by camp life, while the surrounding reality remains ever present.
