"The Pit" is a scripture by Alexander Kuprin published in installments between 1909 and 1915. The novel tells the story of prostitutes and their problems. One of the most remarkable is the story of the prostitute Zhenya. When a client infects her, not wanting to be cured at first, she wants to infect as many people as possible, but out of pity for the cadet boy, who was very polite to her, she "confesses" to journalist Platonov and commits suicide. Interestingly, the prostitutes were given fictional, "beautiful" names in the novel, and only when Zhenya was hanged the author give her real name, Susanna Ricena, which can be considered a symbol of liberty.
