It was published according to the text found in Volume V of T. Navasardyants’s “Armenian Folk Tales” (T. Navasardyants, Armenian Folk Tales, Volume V, Tpkhis, 1889, pp. 36–47). In T. Navasardyants’s “Armenian Folk Tales”, there is also the following note about this tale: "In this book, we publish the following seven tales sent to us by Mr. Hmayak Mazhinyan, who collected them in the village of Shnogh (in Lori province) and wrote them in the original local dialect. "We publicly express our gratitude to the gentleman, who, having clearly understood the importance of studying the oral literature of the Armenian people, is supporting us in the undertaking we have initiated." Considering the time of the book’s publication, it should be assumed that Hm. Mazhinyan recorded these tales from Lori between the years 1880–1888. There is no further information about the storyteller or the circumstances of the tale’s recording.
