"The Deer" by Vrtanes Papazian is a heartbreaking story about a mother deer and her newborn fawn. When the first winter snow covers the forest , the mother searches for food. The playful fawn wanders away from her and suddenly hears a gunshot. It runs back to find its mother mortally wounded, staining the snow with blood. The orphaned fawn stays by its cold, dead mother, crying , and eventually dies of cold and grief beside her. It is a tragic tale of lost innocence and the harshness of nature.
