The novella “Hovnatan March” by Aksel Bakunts is one of the examples of Armenian classical prose, in which the author, with subtle irony and satire, portrays the reality of Soviet Armenia in the 1920s. At the center of the plot is the Armenian-American figure Hovhannes March, who comes to his homeland to implement his theoretical and lofty ideas, but encounters harsh everyday life and a bleak reality.
