New e-book: The Good Soldier Schweik, Jaroslav Hashek

“The Good Soldier Schweik” is an unfinished satirical novel by Czech writer Jaroslav Hašek. Josef Švejk, a former infantryman and now a dealer in stolen dogs in Prague, learns about the outbreak of World War I. A caricatured burst of patriotism leads Švejk successively to a police station, a mental asylum, a military hospital, a military prison, and finally into military service: first in the rear, and then on his way to the front.
