Baku at the beginning of the twentieth century. Two longtime friends, lawyer Nazimyan and engineer Mersimyan, are drawn into a conflict in which private secrets, debts, and self-interest collide with ideas of honor and friendship. Against the background of a wealthy Armenian milieu, business interests, and an approaching marriage, the fragility of trust, moral principles, and personal relationships gradually comes to the surface.
